Complaints Procedure

How to Make a Complaint

To raise a concern about an architect’s general conduct or competence, please contact the Architects Registration Board (ARB) — the UK’s statutory regulator for architects under the Architects Act 1997. You can find details of the ARB’s complaints procedure here.

Please note: The AABC is not a regulatory body. We do not guarantee the suitability of any architect for a particular commission. Clients are strongly advised to consider multiple factors when appointing an architect. The ARB offers helpful guidance Before Hiring an Architect.

Complaints About AABC Accreditation or Processes

The AABC accredits architects in good faith based on evidence of past experience in building conservation. We only handle complaints that relate directly to:

  • The AABC accreditation process or our assessment procedures
  • The misuse of the AABC accreditation or logo
  • Specific concerns about conservation work carried out by an AABC-registered architect, where relevant to their technical conservation competence

Complaints about our processes will be handled in line with our Complaints and Monitoring Standards Procedure, which is available on request.

If you wish to raise a concern about the AABC’s procedures or an accredited architect’s conservation competence, please get in touch.

We review all complaints fairly and in line with our published policy.
