The AABC’s mission is to promote the highest standards of specialist architectural skills in the conservation, repair and adaptation of the historic built environment. We maintain a register of architects with appropriate expertise, assessed in a rigorous process by peers and client-focused lay assessors.
The AABC aims:
To fund, maintain, promote and publish free access for clients to a register of architects with proven expertise, specialist knowledge and experience in building conservation and adaptation to help prevent damaging interventions to the historic built environment by people without suitable skills and experience.
To help protect the public purse, grant awarding organisations, charitable trusts, preservation societies, property owners, and other clients through their appointment of an AABC registered architect with an understanding of grant conditions and compliance, regulations and guidelines applicable to historic buildings.
To provide a mentoring scheme to assist post-Part II graduates to work towards accreditation standard through a programme of learning and project experience mentored by an AABC accredited architect, attendance at the annual AABC conference and seminars where there will be an opportunity for mentees to meet with AABC representatives.
To celebrate the AABC Register through the Civic Trust AABC Conservation Awards, which are awarded to projects demonstrating the highest standards of historic building conservation, a biannual photograph competition illustrating the skills of members of the register, seminars, CPD opportunities and AABC Ambassadors promoting conservation accreditation to architecture students and the public at heritage sector events.
