Oliver Caroe

Oliver’s work and experience spans many sectors. Ecclesiastical work has come to the fore. As an AABC-accredited specialist in heritage and conservation, Oliver has particular expertise in conserving, repairing and improving historic buildings sustainably for 21st century needs and uses. His track record is equally strong as a designer of new buildings and additions to existing structures including projects in the complex settings of cathedrals; for the National Trust and the educational settings of Oxbridge colleges.

He was appointed as architect to Ripon Cathedral in 2010, Surveyor to the Fabric of St Paul’s Cathedral in 2011 and Surveyor of the Fabric to York Minster in 2021. Oliver and team have now completed the award-winning equal access project for St Paul’s in the form of an external access ramp and a new inner portico which is a national memorial for those who lost their lives to Covid
Oliver’s particular concern and interest in sustainability within precious historic places is closely aligned with the York Minster Neighbourhood plan, bringing forward sensitive proposals for energy savings through fabric improvements and well-judged proposals for non-emitting energy generation, including PV.
